Because humans are naturally autonomous beings, they cannot live in isolation from their surroundings. Hence, the importance of their effectiveness in their society becomes apparent—the extent of their influence on those around them and their efforts to participate in developing the environment in which they contribute. This influence extends beyond their professional or academic roles, but also extends to their daily attitudes and interactions with social events.
An effective person is one who feels a sense of responsibility toward their community and strives to be part of the solution, not the problem. This begins with the simplest things, such as maintaining public hygiene, participating in awareness campaigns, and reaching out to major initiatives such as pioneering community projects, or volunteering in the health and education sectors.
The Holy Quran calls for effectiveness in several places, emphasizing that this work is an act and destiny of God and society. For example, the Almighty says: "And say, 'Work, for God will see your work, and [so will] His Messenger and the believers.'" The Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, also set clear standards for the value of a person in his society: based solely on his usefulness. He said, "The best of people are those who are most beneficial to others."
One clear example of a person's effectiveness in their society is the ability to contribute to society. In many countries, including the Gulf states, both citizens and residents alike are rushing to support those affected, whether through donations or volunteering at hospitals. Such initiatives not only emphasize solidarity, but also how individuals can be an effective element in building solidarity and strengthening the collective spirit.
On the educational level, the goal of involving students in school activities and youth initiatives is a manifestation of effectiveness. A student who leads an environmental awareness campaign or participates in a science competition representing their country is not only developing their skills but also contributing to bringing their community together and participating.
The role of effectiveness in the digital environment cannot be overlooked. In the age of new media, individuals have become capable of communicating their voice through social media. While people use these platforms to raise awareness, advocate for humanitarian causes, or support community projects, they can engage in digital activity that enhances their impact and expands their reach.
The effects arising from this activity are numerous. At the individual level, it fosters a sense of belonging and enables us to appreciate and value others. At the societal level, it brings about a tangible improvement in quality of life by spreading awareness, gradually breaking away from preconceived notions, and stimulating cooperation and support.
Ultimately, human activity is not only influenced by what we accomplish ourselves, but also by what we offer and by our ability to be motivated to do better. Every individual—regardless of their position—is capable of acting independently, even for a small part of the day, starting at home and not ending at the borders of the world.
